Rotavirus Vaccine Group Evaluation and Forecasting Rules

General Rules for Rotavirus

General rules are not series-specific; general rules apply to the entire vaccine group.

Rules Based on Patient's Age

If the patient is >= 105 days old (i.e., >= 15 weeks old) and has not received any doses of rotavirus vaccine, then the Recommendation is Not Recommended and the reason code is TOO_OLD_TO_INITIATE (new recommendation code).
If the patient is >= 105 days old (i.e., >= 15 weeks old) when dose 1 is administered, dose 2 is still recommended, unless the patient is currently > 8 months 0 days, or will be > 8 months 0 days on the recommended date due.
If the patient is currently > 8 months 0 days, or will be > 8 months 0 days on the recommended date due, then the Recommendation is Not Recommended and the reason code is TOO_OLD.
If the patient is > 8 months of age on the date of administration, then the Evaluation is Accepted and the reason code is ABOVE_REC_AGE_SERIES.
Shots administered to a patient > 8 months of age do not count toward completion of the series; the series can NOT be completed once the patient is > 8 months old.

Series Selection Rules

There are two series for this vaccine group: the Rotavirus 3-dose series and the Rotavirus 2-dose series. The rules for determining which series applies are:

If no doses are on record, then the 3-dose series applies.
If CVX 116 (rotavirus, pentavalent (RotaTeq, 3-dose)), CVX 74 (rotavirus, tetravalent) or CVX 122 (rotavirus NOS) is administered as any dose, then the 3-dose series applies.
If dose 1 is CVX 119 (rotavirus, monovalent (Rotarix, 2 dose)) then the 2-dose series applies.
If dose 1 and dose 2 are CVX 119 (rotavirus, monovalent (Rotarix, 2-dose)) then the 2-dose series applies and is complete.

Immunization Series: Rotavirus 3-dose Series

The Rotavirus 3-dose series is complete after 3 doses.
