About the Default Immunization Schedule
Maintained by HLN Consulting, the open-source Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) provides evidence-based recommendations for patients of all ages through its Default Immunization Schedule. This built-in logic evaluates a patient’s immunization history and forecasts needs. Explore the Default Immunization Schedule rules and see the engine in action using the CDS Insight: Immunization CDS module. For integration instructions, see Installing ICE.
Clinical Guideline Alignment
The Default Immunization Schedule follows best-evidence-based clinical guidelines, including those issued by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and professional medical societies.* The schedule is further informed by the CDC Clinical Decision Support for Immunization (CDSi) project resources and input from ICE users and other immunization experts.
*E.g., the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
Schedule Authority Alignment by Vaccine Group
The table below specifies ICE Default Schedule vaccine group rule alignment with the schedule authority or authorities where the clinical guidelines are primarily sourced. Notes:
AAP issues recommendations for patients birth through age 18 years. ACIP/CDC and AAFP issue recommendations for patients of all ages.
If multiple organizations are listed for a particular vaccine group (e.g., ACIP/CDC; AAP/AAFP), it means the rules align with each authority and that the authorities agree on the recommendations.
If only ACIP/CDC is listed, it means they were the primary source. This does not necessarily imply a conflict with other authorities.
This information is also provided on each vaccine group wiki page.
