Yellow Fever Vaccine Group (Travel/Non-Routine)
Yellow Fever Vaccine Group Evaluation and Forecasting Rules
Clinical Guidelines
These rules align with guidance issued by ACIP/CDC.
See ICE Default Immunization Schedule: Clinical Guidelines for more information.
General Rules for Yellow Fever
General rules are not series-specific; general rules apply to the entire vaccine group.
General Evaluation and Recommendation Rules
Yellow Fever Recommendation Rule
When recommending in the yellow fever vaccine group, always return reason code SUPPLEMENTAL_TEXT with descriptive text, "Yellow fever vaccination is not routinely recommended in the U.S. and is only indicated for select patients at increased risk. Yellow fever is a live vaccine. An absolute minimum interval of 24 days is required between yellow fever vaccines. An absolute minimum interval of 28 days is required between a yellow fever vaccine and a live vaccine from another vaccine group. The minimum and recommended interval between yellow fever and another live vaccine is 30 days. Refer to ACIP and the CDC Yellow Book: Health Information for International Travel for additional information."
Recommendation Rules Based on Series Completion and Patient Age
If the patient is not complete for yellow fever, and
the patient is < the absolute minimum age for the Yellow Fever Risk Series, (i.e., < 6 months), then the recommendation is Not Recommended with reason code SUPPLEMENTAL_TEXT (see Yellow Fever Recommendation Rule).
the patient is >= the absolute minimum age and < routine age for the Yellow Fever Risk Series (i.e., >= 6 months and < 9 months), then the recommendation is Conditional with reason codes BELOW_REC_AGE_SERIES (new forecasting reason code), HIGH_RISK and SUPPLEMENTAL_TEXT (see Yellow Fever Recommendation Rule).
the patient is >= the routine age for the Yellow Fever Risk Series (i.e., >= 9 months), then the recommendation is Conditional with reason codes HIGH_RISK and SUPPLEMENTAL_TEXT (see Yellow Fever Recommendation Rule).
If the patient is complete for yellow fever, then the recommendation is Conditional with reason codes COMPLETE_HIGH_RISK and SUPPLEMENTAL_TEXT (see Yellow Fever Recommendation Rule).
Notes
All shots given after a series is complete will be evaluated as Accepted with reason code EXTRA_DOSE, according to the ICE General Rule Shots Administered After Series is Complete.
Yellow Fever Vaccines
CVX Code | Name | Live Vaccine Interval Rule Applies | Absolute Minimum Age |
|---|---|---|---|
37 | Yellow fever live | Yes | 6 months |
183 | Yellow fever vaccine live - alt | Yes | 6 months |
184 | Yellow fever, unspecified formulation (NOS) | Yes | 6 months |
CVX Code Specific Rules
There are no CVX code specific rules beyond what is indicated in the Vaccines table.
Notes
The Live Vaccine Interval rule applies to all yellow fever vaccines. For rule details, see the Live Vaccine Interval rule on the General ICE Rules page.
If one of the CVX codes in the vaccines table is administered below the absolute minimum age for that CVX code, then the Evaluation is Invalid and the reason code is BELOW_MINIMUM_AGE_VACCINE, per the ICE General Rule "Evaluation of Shots Below the Vaccine Code Absolute Minimum Age."
Immunization Series and Selection Rules
Series Name
There is one series for this vaccine group, the Yellow Fever Risk Series.
Immunization Series: Yellow Fever Risk Series
Vaccine Dose Parameters - Minimum and Routine Ages
Dose | Series Name | Absolute Minimum Age | Minimum Age | Routine Age | Latest Recommended Age (less than) | Valid CVX Code(s) per Dose for this Series |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
11 | Yellow Fever Risk Series | 6 months | N/A | 9 months2 | N/A | 37, 183, 184 |
Series Special Rules
There are no special rules that apply to this series.
Notes
1 Since the Live Vaccine Interval Rule applies to yellow fever vaccines, an absolute minimum interval of 24 days is required from an invalid yellow fever to fulfill target dose 1.
2 ICE will not return forecast dates for yellow fever. See Recommendation Rules Based on Series Completion and Patient Age above.
